Why

The modern vein center relies heavily on the Vascular Laboratory to identify venous disease, measure its severity, plan therapy, and follow the course of surgical or non-surgical intervention. As will be described, the Miami Vein Center has one of the most comprehensive and experienced Vascular Laboratories in the country. The Miami Vein Center Vascular Laboratory is located on the Center's tropical campus and has its own entrance, reception, and waiting area. The heart of the facility is its state-of-the- art examining area. Here the Miami Vein Center has spared no expense in providing their patients with the most technically advanced instrumentation available anywhere. All studies are painless and noninvasive. Imaging of veins and other vessels is accomplished by ultrasound. Needles and dye injection is not needed to provide Center physicians with proper patient assessment. Color Duplex Ultrasound is provided by the General Electric LOGIQ 9 system, which is known throughout the world as the leader in the field of imaging. Whereas, instrumentation is clearly important, an even more necessary ingredient for a successful Vascular Laboratory is the staff. At Miami Vein Center the staff is outstanding. When a patient enters the facility, a competent receptionist is there to greet you and help you through the brief registration. We have several highly trained Vascular Technologists. Our Chief Technologist is Jasmine Pena. Mrs. Pena has worked in this field for a number of years and is RVT-eligible. Eventually, she moved to the University of Miami and worked in ultrasound and vascular research. In April 2006 she joined Dr. Almeida at the Miami Vein Center. Mrs. Pena is dedicated to her profession, and provides a superior level of noninvasive vascular measurements.

The Miami Vein Center Vascular Laboratory has developed comprehensive protocols and forms to record and report patient findings. In most cases the focus is on the superficial and deep veins of the lower extremity. This quantitative information is used to plan therapy and to assess the success of surgical intervention. The testing is rapid, painless, and requires no special preparation. In addition to lower extremity veins the Laboratory can assess upper extremity veins. We also have a comprehensive program for noninvasive evaluation of the arterial system including the lower extremities, upper extremities, extracranial system, and abdominal aorta. The Laboratory is also developing a screening program for coronary artery disease, stroke, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. If you or your physicians have any questions regarding the Miami Vein Center Vascular Laboratory please let us know, as we are here to serve you and the physicians of our region. Appointments can be made during working hours by calling the Center.
